Edinburgh Festival:
We have written to the Fringe & Council with the following statement - in the absence of a response we publish our finding as follows:
The Festival Fringe Society Limited operates under a Market Operators Licence issued for the period 6-30 August 2010 by the City of Edinburgh Council.
The Fringe issues licences and regulates its participants under the Theaters Act 1968.
Street Trading in Edinburgh is regulated under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982.
Pedlary in Edinburgh is regulated under the Pedlars Act 1871.
The Pedlars Act 1881 makes provision to act within any part of the United Kingdom.
Acting as a pedlar is exempt from Street Trading regulation under the CGSA.
Pedlars and Hawkers are exempt from tolls at markets and fairs open to the public under the Markets & Fairs Clauses Act 1847.
