TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN – CORRUPT COUNCILS
I have been a pedlar for 15 years.
I applied to Liverpool Council for Mathew Street Festival for the bank holiday weekend 25 August this year and was told that they don’t want any traders of what I was selling.
I went on the bank holiday Monday to find they had official stalls selling the same products as me including light-up whistles, inflatable guitars and ponchos all from similar wholesalers as I use.
Those 3 items I have sold on previous years when you could work Liverpool on a Pedlar’s Certificate in the town centre. The Council made me pay rent of £50 per day to the market manager even though I didn’t work in the market.
Now the Liverpool Bill has been passed they won’t take a rent for any event including the Christmas switch-on and this has badly affected me.
To me this shows up how corrupt Councils can be when they get these bills passed into law and then appoint their friends to sell products that pedlars have made popular.
I hear that they now want to control the issuing of pedlars certs and I think they will abuse this power in the same way. I think that the police are not so corrupt and they should keep things how they are.
yours faithfully
