Hello & welcome to this pedlar information site which is an open access facility for members of the public to find out about pedlary.

It exists because some pedlars have petitioned Parliament about what they think is a direct denial of their rights. Pedlars are allowed by Act of Parliament to trade anywhere throughout the land and the Pedlars' Certificate gives the pedlar this lawful right but some local authorities seek an end to the cultural identity of pedlars and this is why pedlars are petitioning Parliament and providing information about ongoing changes in legislation.

The Principle of the Pedlars Act provides common law privilege to any eligible pedestrian person to trade with complete freedom based on purely individual decisions within any part of the UK.

You might think this has got nothing to do with you, but if you are over the age of 17 you can apply to your local police station to trade any goods within any part of the UK as a certified pedlar. You may want to hand out leaflets for a bring-and-buy sale, or, as a motoring agent, encourage people to sign up for motor insurance or you may just have entrepreneurial ideas and want to begin plying your trade and researching new products with the public. Such trading may be an offence if you don't carry a Pedlars Certificate that costs £12.50 a year.

Some local authorities think it appropriate to employ staff to criminalise pedlars, take away whatever the pedlar has including the pedlar's lawful certificate, and add to that by going to the pedlar's home - or anyone associated with the pedlar, family, friends and neighbours to search for whatever the "authority" claims is to do with the pedlar. Such intimidation and harrassment is unacceptable.

Government, BIS, published a Consultation document 6 November 2009 which is so misleading that the title itself indicates no comprehension about the two distinct types of lawful street traders - ie Licensed and Certified and so today we at pedlars.info begin publishing our daily communications with BIS on the HMG consultation link in the left column.
